A Little Facelift

So our house is hideous! :) That is what happens when you move into a house that a "typical" renter lived in for 4 years. Luckily we had all the carpet replaced before unpacking. We also made sure to get our air ducts cleaned out and sanitized. Those 2 things helped my peace of mind for a while. However, I can't sit still for long because this place needs a huge over haul. We are trying to pace ourselves and do things simple and inexpensive (it is on company money) This is not our house and we won't be here forever, but some things have to change if we are going to live here for even just a year. The first project we took on was the guest bathroom. We started here because it is small and would be quick and easy...and because we would be having visitors soon and wanted them to feel comfortable. Not to mention is was UGLY!! And these before pictures aren't even accurate because I had already primed the walls. The walls were covered with a horrendous floral wallpaper that I can't help but think should be outlawed in all 50 states. That sad part is...our kitchen is decked out in the same flora. Ugh...that will be a major undertaking that I just don't have the strength for yet. But hey...free is free so we deal with it(we don't have to pay to live here)

So here are the before and after pics. We still have work to do...like the little paint details...we would have completed all the paint and small things but hurried and threw everything up today because my Grandma and Aunt were heading this way to stay. Unfortunately, they called an hour or so ago and had to head to Houston instead. :( Oh well...at least we got most of it done!

Ta Daaaa!!!!

I am lucky because I didn't think about the color scheme at all and it somehow turned out perfect!!(to me at least) I picked out the shower curtain and then a couple of days later I was at Lowes and on a whim I bout the paint color on the wall...I was happy to see they matched so well!

We put in a new floor and then put some wainscoting on one wall.(when I say "we" I totally mean Josh...but I helped....a little) I LOVE IT!! (please ignore the paint detailing that needs our attention!) We could have went with a fancier baseboard and molding...but we went for cost efficiency instead...anyhow it still looks good.
Ahhh...it feels so nice and fresh in there now. It is my favorite room in the house for now...and the one we probably use the least (due to the fact we have a master bath) It makes Josh and I feel good to be able to take something so unattractive and make it livable!!

Oh I'm so proud of you! What a beautiful room! When you come here, I want you to fix my bathroom! I'm just so intimidated and so I don't do anything. You don't have to fix it, but you should tell me what to do. Because I love love love yours! So cute!

Much, much better. I really like the colors. I'm doing my master bath in blue whenever I feel like replastering the walls. I refuse to spen money painting over nasty ugly orange peel walls. Yuck!
I love to fix up our houses too, makes me feel very accomplished, but our first one had sooo much to do it was kind of overwhelming so I know how you're feeling. Good luck with that!

Wow--you've found your inner interior decorator! The bathroom looks great. I want to see pics of the offensive floral wallpaper. I have a fear that when I see it, I'll like it, and then I'll know for sure that I have no taste!
